For those who made it, your aware of the magic [BIG]art Group creates. Its insane, unusual, comforting, inspiring, often times caffeinated, and extremely insightful. Here are some pics from this past weeks performance at The Imitation Concert at Hot Festival – Dixon Place July 3, 2009.
Wow, we’re still spinning from an epic weekend the Amfar Benefit with Interview Magazine and Mr. Patrick Duffy at The Standard hotel (the view of the fireworks =stunning). The after party was packed and the sound was bumpin! An extra SPANK YOU to MR WEST, which hosted our afterparty when APT had some sudden errr… trouble. The space was a perfect SPANK stomping ground with a great dance floor, sound and staff.

The Imitation tells the story of Alice, a young “conceptual artist”
struggling to claw her way through a cutthroat art market, willing to
sacrifice anything to realize her dream. When her path intersects with
an unscrupulous financier, she betrays a dark secret to her ambition
that consumes both their fates. As the pair begins a frantic series of
attempts to regain control of their storyline, her secret corrodes
their schemes and pulls her and her accomplice into an upsurging
cthonic chaos.
Presented in this incarnation as a four channel video installation with
Big Art Group members Viva Ruiz, Ned Stresen-Reuter, Heather Litteer
and David Commander synchronized with the live concert musicians, The
Imitation is a performance fabricated from the detritus and trash of
New York City, repurposed and repackaged into a hallucinatory,
psychedelic, celebratory, and corrosive invocation. The Imitation
explores the dark temptation of the creative act.

Due to some last minute troubles with APT we have moved our FREE Pride Party a few blocks north to Mr West (not to be confused with Mr Black) on the corner of 22nd and 11th ave. It’s a great club with fantastic sound, a super cute dancefloor and we’ve arranged for $6 Stella’s and $8 vodka drinks all night!

We’ve had a crush on Farrad aka Willie aka Negro Noir Dazzle for a while now. He’s a little sassy and all kinds of sexy on stage. This issue is sort of sexy, pretty and well.. sassy. Get dirty with a story from Will Powers, enjoy a spread of booty with actual Spanking polaroids by Jason Rodgers and decode collages (with penetration) by Leonard Gary Rizzolo. Get arty with flower drawings by legendary performer Flloyd, and a lovely collaboration by Matthew Lebaron and Billy Erb. Simply gorgeous is the bet way to describe the photos by Devin Elijah (his shot graces the cover). Fashion photographer Terry Tsiolis spent the afternoon with Spank’s number one fan Ryan Sorkin and the result is everything we hoped for. Plus, paintings by Scooter LaForge and a photo spread with zine celebrity Gio Black Peter (who joined us to perform at the release party for this issue) give that extra little tap on the ass Spank aims to deliver. Wow another cray fun night with Johnny Dynell and the Mr Black crew. And really summer must be here ’cause shirts were off and makeout sessions were happening all over the place.
